'Theras and His Town' also written by Caroline Dale Snedeker is the story of a young Athenian boy who is taken to Sparta by a relative when his father is lost in the war. Theras’ Spartan life is greatly detailed and is in great contrast to his Athenian life. Theras eventually escapes from Sparta with a Perioikoi boy and is rescued by Herodotus and taken back to Athens. This book is a great fun read and is very useful in teaching children how Spartan children lived and trained. It is very accurate as it deals with the harshness that Spartan children endure in the Spartan military system.
